Why choose to "do it yourself" or "grow it yourself"? In essence, these movements are a re-introduction (often to urban and suburban dwellers) of the old pattern of personal or communal involvement and use of skills or other resources, thus contributing to a more sustainable way of life and greater well-being. Repair cafés, urban gardens, DIY/GIY workshops are all becoming commonplace in many countries across Europe. See below for a better idea of the types of local initiatives being carried out by citizens and communities seeking to be more environmentally-friendly, avoid waste (e.g. of food, skills, public spaces) and improve their quality of life overall.

Repair Cafés are free meeting places and they're all about repairing things (together). In the place where a Repair Café is located, you’ll find tools and materials to help you make any repairs you need. On clothes, furniture, electrical appliances, bicycles, crockery, appliances, toys, et cetera.You will also find repair specialists such as electricians, seamstresses, carpenters and bicycle mechanics. Visitors bring their broken items from home. Together with the specialists they start making their repairs in the Repair Café.
